Free alternatives to Camtasia
2 free programs that can replace Camtasia, each pairing checked by Radar's AI reviewer or by Radar.
Camtasia, from TechSmith, records your screen and edits the video in the same program. Teachers, trainers, support teams and software companies use it for tutorials, product demos and training lessons.
Before you switch, think about how you work today:
- Recording and editing may live in different programs. Tools such as OBS Studio and ShareX are mainly about capturing the screen, so you may need a separate program for editing.
- Camtasia projects are saved in its own format. Finish and export any video you might still change, and keep the original recordings.
- Callouts, zoom effects, captions, cursor highlights and templates can be tedious to rebuild, so list the ones you really use.
- Check the export formats, frame rate and resolution that your viewers or platform need.
Open-source tools may ask for more setup and a longer learning curve, so try a short test recording first. The options are in the list below.
