Terms of use

These terms explain the rules for using RepoPicks Radar, at repopicks.com. By continuing to use the site, you declare that you agree to them; if you do not, do not use the site. How we handle personal data is described in the privacy policy.

What RepoPicks is

RepoPicks Radar is a free, informational website run by an independent founder in Brazil, a natural person. Every day, it follows the open-source projects that are trending on GitHub and explains each one in plain language: what the project does, how easy it is to install on each system, which risk signals were found, with the evidence, and which paid programs it can replace.

The site does not sell programs, does not charge for access and does not ask you to sign up.

What a card means

Each card brings together signals with evidence, taken from public GitHub data and from what the project itself publishes. A card is not a guarantee, nor a recommendation for you to install a program. A card with no risk signals means the checks found nothing, not that the program is free of problems: we do not guarantee the absence of risks.

Card summaries are written by artificial intelligence and reviewed under the site’s rules. Each card shows whether it was reviewed by AI or checked by Radar. Even so, they may contain mistakes, become outdated when the project changes or leave out something important. The ease-of-install grade is an estimate and may not hold for your computer. Before installing any program, read the project’s official page and decide for yourself.

If you find a mistake, use the correction request page.

Third-party programs

The programs mentioned on the site are third-party programs: they belong to their authors, who distribute them. RepoPicks does not host, distribute or modify these programs; the links lead to the author’s repository on GitHub. When you download, install or use a program, you do so at your own risk, directly from the author’s source.

Each project has its own license, which defines what you can do with it, and it is that license that applies to the program, not these terms. RepoPicks does not provide support for the programs mentioned; questions and problems should go to the authors. Before installing a new program, it is a good idea to back up your important files.

Trademarks and names

The names of projects, programs, companies and systems mentioned on the site, such as GitHub, Windows and the paid programs in the comparisons, are trademarks of their owners. RepoPicks uses these names only to identify and describe the programs, for example to say which free program does a similar job to a paid one. This does not mean that the two programs are the same, nor that the trademark owner supports or sponsors the site. The site does not use logos of the paid programs.

RepoPicks is not affiliated with GitHub or with the makers of the programs mentioned. If you own a trademark and believe it was used incorrectly, write to us.

Correction requests

Anyone, including the author of a project, can ask for a wrong detail to be corrected through the correction request page, which explains how to write to us. Tell us what is wrong and, if you can, send the link that shows the right information. We aim to answer within 7 days.

A request is for fixing mistakes, not for changing what the evidence shows. When the correction is justified, the card is corrected; when it is not, the answer explains why.

Content of this site

The texts, cards, guides, rankings and the way the information is organized belong to RepoPicks. The public project data, such as stars, downloads and descriptions, comes from GitHub and from the projects themselves, and remains subject to the rules of whoever published it.

You can read, save and share the pages for personal use. To quote an excerpt elsewhere, credit the source with a link to the RepoPicks page. You may not republish the site’s content in bulk, present it as your own or use it for commercial purposes without written permission.

Ads

The site may show Google ads (AdSense), labeled as advertising. The ads are chosen by Google, not by RepoPicks. Showing an ad does not mean that RepoPicks endorses the advertiser, the product or the offer, and any purchase or contract with an advertiser is solely between you and them.

Ads do not influence the cards, the rankings or the comparisons: nobody pays to appear on Radar. The use of cookies by ads is explained in the privacy policy.

Limitation of liability

The site is provided as is, free of charge and for information purposes. We do our best to keep the information correct and up to date, but we do not guarantee that it is complete, error-free or always available, and we do not guarantee the absence of risks in any program mentioned.

To the extent permitted by law, RepoPicks is not liable for damage caused by installing or using third-party programs, by decisions made based on the cards, by the content of external sites or advertisers, or by failures or interruptions of the site.

Nothing in these terms limits rights that the law grants you and that cannot be waived by contract, such as those under Brazil’s Consumer Protection Code, where it applies.

Changes to these terms

These terms may change, for example when the site gains new features, such as the app, or when the law requires it. The version in force is always the one on this page, with the date of the last update at the end. Important changes will be highlighted on the site. If you keep using the site after a change, the new version applies.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Brazil. If you are a consumer, the courts of your place of residence have jurisdiction, as Brazilian law provides. People who live in another country keep the consumer rights that the law of their country grants them and that cannot be waived by contract.

These terms exist in Portuguese, English, Spanish and Chinese. If the versions differ, the Portuguese version prevails, except where the law of your country says otherwise.
