Free alternatives to QuarkXPress
1 free program that can replace QuarkXPress, a pairing checked by Radar's AI reviewer or by Radar.
QuarkXPress is a desktop publishing program for laying out magazines, brochures, books, catalogues and other printed or digital pages. Designers, print shops and publishers use it, and it is commercial software sold under a paid licence.
Moving away from it takes some planning. Native QuarkXPress files are meant to be opened in QuarkXPress, so keep a working copy of the program, or at least export your key documents to PDF or another exchange format, until you have tested the result. Check how text frames, styles, fonts, images and colours come across, and whether the new program can produce the print-ready PDF your printer asks for, including bleed, colour mode and embedded fonts. If clients or printers send you Quark files, ask whether they can supply a PDF or another format instead. Page layout has its own vocabulary, so allow time to learn where the new program puts master pages, linked text and style sheets.
