Friction

What it does
Friction is a desktop program for creating 2D animations, such as animated titles, logos, shapes and drawings. You place vector shapes, text and images on a timeline, animate them with keyframes and export to video or animated SVG for the web. It is for people who make motion graphics and do not want a paid tool. It is based on an older open-source program called enve. Windows, macOS and Linux have ready downloads; the newest versions are still labelled release candidates (1.0.0-rc.3), not a final 1.0.
How easy it is to install
A · download and open · Windows
The latest release includes a Windows installer (friction-1.0.0-rc.3-setup-win64.exe, about 27 MB) and a portable 7z version, so you download it and open it.

What Radar could not check
- How stable the release-candidate version is for longer projects.
- Which video formats export correctly on Windows.
- How well it performs with many layers or long animations on an average computer.
