DiPlay
shihabal3amri/DiPlayReviewed by AI
Radar found strong risk signals in this project. It stays visible so you can read the evidence, but it is left out of rankings and recommendations.
What it does
DiPlay is an app you install on the Android screen built into certain BYD cars, not on the iPhone, so the car can show CarPlay over USB or wirelessly, including BYD's windshield navigation. It is a public preview by one developer: the head unit must allow installing app files, some extras need developer access (ADB) to the car, and only BYD is supported. It is not an Apple-approved product: it works by reusing an accessory identity taken from another company's adapter firmware, and that may stop being accepted at any time.
How easy it is to install
E · developers only
There is nothing to run on Windows, Mac, Linux or the browser, so it is grade E here: the app is installed on a car's Android screen ("Install on the car, not the iPhone"), the head unit must permit installing app files, and some features need developer access to the car over ADB. Car head units are not a system Radar grades.

Risk signals (6)
- Highreuses accessory identity from other firmware
README.md: "This is not an Apple-certified product. The APK bundles an experimental accessory identity recovered from public Carlinkit firmware, not a newly provisioned MFi identity for DiPlay. A bundled private key is extractable." The app gets CarPlay to accept it by reusing another company's accessory credentials, which is not authorised by Apple or by that company, and extracting such keys is against the law in several countries.

- Attentionpublic preview unverified compatibility
README.md: "This release invites community testing; it is not a guarantee of universal compatibility", "Android 7.0-8.1 support is not yet confirmed on a vehicle", "wheel-speed dead reckoning in tunnels remains unverified" and "General stutter, calls/Siri, decoder and model-specific reports still need current-device evidence".
AI review
- Attentionmay stop working after updates
README.md: "Acceptance after future iOS updates, reliability across head units and suitability of that identity for general distribution are unresolved." A phone or car update can stop it working, and the shared identity can be blocked.
AI review
- Infobrand scope limited
README.md: "These projects focus on BYD cars. They may work on other brands, but other brands are unsupported and there are no plans to add support or fix brand-specific incompatibilities."
AI review
- Infomixed copyleft licenses
README.md: "Based on xcertplay, GPL-3.0. The home/settings UI and website adapt DiAuto, AGPL-3.0 ... Preserve those notices when distributing modifications", while GitHub reports the repository as GPL-3.0.

What Radar could not check
- Whether it works on your exact car, head unit firmware and iPhone version
- Whether a car or phone update makes it stop working, and whether the shared identity gets blocked
- What the saved diagnostic report contains before you send it to the project
- Whether installing it can disturb the car's own software or the factory projection app
- Whether using it this way breaks the terms of your car or phone warranty where you live
