DroidDeck

Droid-Deck/DroidDeckReviewed by AI

What it does

DroidDeck turns an Android handheld or phone into something like a Steam Deck: it starts Steam in Big Picture mode and runs Windows games through Valve's ARM64 Proton, with controller support, a Linux desktop, app store installs from Flathub, and connections for GOG, Epic, Amazon and Battle.net libraries. Smart glasses from VITURE, RayNeo, XREAL and Rokid are supported. You need Android 9 or newer with an Adreno 730 or newer chip, about 4 GB free for the runtime before any game, a sideloaded APK and, on Android 14 and newer, a developer setting switched on. No root needed.

How easy it is to install

D · terminal, several tools or a specific graphics card

Android is the only system it runs on, and there it is a D: it needs a specific graphics chip (Adreno 730 or newer; Mali, Xclipse, PowerVR and Adreno 710 are unsupported), an APK installed by hand from GitHub, about 3 GB of runtime plus 1.1 GB for the desktop, a Steam sign-in, and on Android 14 and newer a developer option turned on. Computers are not covered at all.

  • Attentionlowers system protection

README.md: "On Android 14 and newer, before Steam launches, you must turn on Disable child process restrictions in Developer options." On Android 12 and 13 a "Fix it for me" button automates that setup.

    AI review

  • Attentionbrowser sandbox reduced

README.md, Limits: "Firefox sandboxing is reduced under proot." Credits: Chromium and Electron apps from Flathub are started "directly without Chromium's sandbox".

    AI review

  • Attentionextra apks named after other apps

Release 0.6.0 (2026-10-22) ships DroidDeck-0.6.0-antutu.apk, DroidDeck-0.6.0-ludashi.apk and DroidDeck-0.6.0-pubg.apk alongside the plain DroidDeck-0.6.0.apk. The README never mentions these variants, so what they identify themselves as to the phone, and why, is not explained.

    AI review

  • Attentionhandles your game store logins

README.md: "Stores (Setup › Stores › 'Show Stores in the rail') signs in to GOG, Epic Games and Amazon Games", and the credits describe reading "Steam's saved token with the ConnectCache format" and driving "Blizzard's own Agent and the local HTTP API it serves". Your store accounts are therefore used by software the shops do not support.

    AI review

  • Infoandroid only

README.md: "Use Android 9 or newer on a supported Adreno device (730 or newer, or 8xx)... Mali, Xclipse, PowerVR, and Adreno 710 are unsupported." The releases contain only .apk files, no Windows, Mac or Linux builds.

    AI review

  • Infounofficial store clients

README.md: Epic's x86-64 Linux launcher runs through FEX on ARM and "this preview and ARM setup are outside Epic's listed Linux support"; the project also states it "is not affiliated with Valve" and spoofs the controller identity with PROTON_SPOOF_STEAMINPUT_VIDPID for Battle.net games.

    AI review

  • Infofake download sites warning

README.md: "DroidDeck does not have a stand-alone website. Do not click on any download links from websites claiming to be the DroidDeck team." Worth reading next to the checks on the 33-day-old repository and owner account.

What Radar could not check

  • Whether your particular phone or handheld runs it, and how well; the README says "Compatibility and performance vary by device; hardware validation is limited".
  • What the antutu, ludashi and pubg APK variants change compared with the plain APK.
  • Whether using these unofficial store connections can get a Steam, Epic, GOG, Amazon or Battle.net account restricted.
  • Real storage use once the runtime, the desktop and a few games are installed, on top of the stated 3 GB plus 1.1 GB.
  • Battery drain and heat while playing, and whether a given game runs at a playable speed.
