Excalidraw

What it does
An infinite whiteboard that runs in the browser. You draw boxes, arrows, circles and free-hand lines that come out looking hand-drawn, add images and reusable shape libraries, and export to PNG, SVG or an open .excalidraw file. The public site excalidraw.com needs no account or install, saves your drawing in the browser and works offline; it also offers real-time collaboration and share links that the project says are end-to-end encrypted. Developers can embed the same editor in their own app as an npm package.
How easy it is to install
A · download and open · Web
On the web it is an A: excalidraw.com opens in any browser with nothing to install and no account, and it keeps working offline. None of the 15 releases carries a desktop installer, and running your own copy instead needs Docker or Node, which is a job for developers.

Risk signals (3)
- Infoshared boards leave your computer
README: the hosted app offers "Real-time collaboration", "Shareable links" and "End-to-end encryption", and the repository has a firebase-project/ folder, so collaborating sends your drawing through the project's servers while a drawing you keep to yourself stays in the browser.
AI review
- Infotagged releases lag behind the code
Checks show the last release on 2026-04-21 (v0.18.1) while the last commit was on 2026-10-27, so the npm package and the live site are not at the same point.

What Radar could not check
- Whether the encryption of shared boards works as the project describes.
- How long a shared link and its data stay on the project's servers.
- Whether running your own copy with the included Dockerfile and docker-compose.yml works on your machine.
- How much a drawing with many images can grow before the browser storage runs out.
